FitchFest
September 11, 2021
A year ago, we moved to a miniature neighborhood in downtown Grand Rapids. Our new neighbors in this two block area welcomed us warmly, and we soon met the many creative families that live here– artists, musicians, writers… the sense of community was palpable.
As a thank you for their kindness, I organized a musical block party featuring three of the musicians who live here. In the height of the pandemic, it was a respite in our socially distant lives.
The first FitchFest was held on October 31 2020 at the height of the Covid lockdown.
This year we had a sequel. We extended our performer lineup to “neighbors and friends,” and had performances ranging from Mozart and Beethoven to a youthful ukulele duo, a soulful singer-songwriter, a blues-jazz lounge act, beautiful noise makers and heavy metal electric guitarist.
The music was excellent, but the sense of community we felt was the real star of the show.
Many thanks to all the performers :
Unholy Trinity: Mara Naselli and Jocelyn Flint
Carolyn
Lila Van Kuiken and Farra
Randy Monte & Stephen Durst
lovesliescrushing: Melissa Duimstra, Scott Cortez, Julian Cortez
and the many neighbors and friends who gave us their audience.
